The Pennsylvania Emergency Health Service Council announced their annual recipient for the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Agency of the Year for 2026. The McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority (MFPAA) of northern Allegheny County has been selected for this distinguished honor. The award is presented in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Health Bureau of EMS. The MFPAA ensures a critical role in public health as first responders for the safety and medical care of their community. MFPAA serves a 64 square mile region for the Township of McCandless, Franklin Park Borough, Township of Pine, Marshall Township, Bradford Woods Borough and North Park of Allegheny County. 


Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum accepted the donation of a Civil War Medal of Honor to their collection. Twenty-year-old, Pittsburgh native Archibald Rowand served in an elite Civil War regiment called Sheridan’s Scouts. Rowand infiltrated enemy lines, gathering valuable reconnaissance, and captured two generals which earned him a Medal of Honor. His great-grandson Scott Rowand donated Archibald’s Medal of Honor. Scott also donated a collection of handwritten letters, several swords, and other artifacts related to his great-grandfather.


The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh announced the opening of its newly renovated Orange Unit, designed to provide a welcoming, healing-centered environment for children with medical complexities and their families. The newly reimagined design promotes healing, comfort, and growth while creating a bright, welcoming space where children can receive expert medical care. One highlight is Rosalyn’s Nook, a dedicated play space created in memory of Rosalyn, lovingly known as “Rose.” Donated by her mother and father, Autumn & Richard. Rosalyn’s Nook offers children and families on the Orange Unit a special place to play, explore, and simply be children.



The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and U. S. Steel announced a new partnership focused on expanding access to music education and community programming in the Mon Valley. Through this new agreement, U. S. Steel will serve as Presenting Sponsor of several community-centered initiatives, including Fiddlesticks in Your Neighborhood, Discovery & Drinks at Carnegie One in Braddock, Support for the PSO’s Schooltime bus fund, helping Mon Valley students attend free educational concerts at Heinz Hall, and Chamber concerts and speaking engagements at Carnegie One.


The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) announced the extension of Music Director Manfred Honeck’s contract through the 2032/2033 season, amounting to a 25-year partnership that will make him the longest-serving Music Director in the Orchestra’s 131-year history. 


Kamin Science Center announced the details of Science of Speed, Powered by Lenovo, a new immersive experience that combines high-performance racing, science, and adrenaline-pumping fun in a unique setting. Set to open on Aug. 1, the 21,000-square-foot experience housed in the former SportsWorks building features four signature attractions: a multi-level, all-electric kart track; high-end racing simulators; vintage and modern race cars, along with interactive science exhibits; and a racing-inspired lounge known as the “Pitt Stop.”


Farmers National Bank has acquired three experienced individuals for its Greater Pittsburgh Team. The new hires are Eric Weber, Senior Vice President, Commercial Banking Team Leader, Tricia Crawford, Vice President, Relationship Manager, Commercial, and Beth Fruehstorfer, Officer, Relationship Manager, Private Client.
