September is what I call the third harvest month, even though we lose about 2½ minutes of precious daylight each day. Farmers always hope and pray for a frost-free September so that we can get into October with farm-fresh crops.

August is often called the “Dog Days of August,” a fitting description for a month with the fewest events. It is the last full month of summer. Schools will welcome kids back for the new school year.
