Some Dos and Don’ts When Traveling
I don’t know if they still do it, but back when I used to have a subscription to it in the 1970s, Glamour magazine, used to publish a spread called “Dos and Don’ts,” which highlighted fashion hits and misses. With the arrival of warmer weather, many of us begin to think about travel and vacation.


Of Two Minds
Did you know that back in the mid-1800s doctors did not wash their hands between examining patients? In 1847, Ignaz Semmelweis, a doctor in Hungary, noted that if he cleaned his hands with a chlorinated lime solution in the maternity ward after dissecting a corpse, it drastically reduced fatal childbed fever. The “experts” back then were offended by his discovery and had him dismissed from his position. They cited their status as being gentlemen as preventing them from spread


People Are Crazy – Even the Small Ones
I’m not the biggest country music fan, and I don’t drink beer, but one of my favorite quips I often quote to sum up the absurdity of life is the lyric from country singer Billy Currington’s 2008 hit song “People are Crazy”: “God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.”


Beautiful Dreamer
Sixty years ago, First Lady Lady Bird Johnson joined the Keep America Beautiful movement, which strived to prevent littering plant flowers, trees, and shrubs; and clean up public places and beautify them by installing murals and artworks.
