Summer. . . We earned it!

Summer in Pittsburgh feels so special because we really earn it every year. This past winter was dubbed an “old-school Pittsburgh winter” by local meteorologists because it brought more snow than we’ve had in recent years. It was more like the winters I remember growing up (remember the famed blizzard of ’93?). This was our 12th snowiest winter on record with a total of 36.5 inches. The January snowstorm brought 11.2 inches of snow in Pittsburgh and up to 23” in surrounding areas. It was also colder than usual, with a brutal stretch of icy temperatures in the second half of January, which meant that we had significant amounts of snow on the ground for a lot of the winter.
Now that we’re finally seeing consistently warmer temperatures, it feels like we really put in the work to get here. The school year is finally winding down and I am ready for more relaxed bedtimes, slower mornings, afternoons at the pool, and some summer travel. You’ll find lots of ideas for summer fun in the pages of this issue. It’s a great time to explore Western Pennsylvania and all the beauty that surrounds us in the summer.
With Father’s Day right around the corner, we’re also celebrating dads and the men in our community that help make the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh a great place to live. You’ll find profiles of some of the innovative and accomplished men in business and healthcare in our area.
We also want to offer our congratulations to all the local high school and college graduates! We wish you the best of luck as you enter a new and exciting phase of life. Whether you are entering a career or furthering your education, we hope you find your passion and your way to contribute to your world and community.
We hope you are flipping through this issue of Northern Connection poolside or in a hammock, enjoying some much-earned sunshine and warm weather. Happy Summer!
