Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team Hosts Eighth Annual Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's a time for reflection on breast cancer research, prevention, and treatment. A special group of area ladies is gearing up this month in their fight for the cure!

The Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival celebrates the sport of dragon boat racing. It supports breast cancer survivors in the greater Pittsburgh area and the mission of the Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team.

Hundreds of spectators experience the thrill of dragon boat racing each year, watching competing teams as many races end in a photo finish. Entertainment and food trucks add to the festive atmosphere.

Get ready to paddle with a purpose and join the splash of excitement at the new venue, Pittsburgh Brewing Company (150 Ferry Street in Creighton, Pennsylvania). Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team invites you to a day of thrilling races, vibrant entertainment, delicious food, and family fun at their 8th Annual Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival. The event runs from 8:30 am-3:30 pm, on Saturday, October 10. 

Mark your calendars for a spectacular day where community spirit meets fierce competition on the beautiful Allegheny River. This year’s festival features spirited races with community teams, sports teams, youth teams, para-paddlers, all cancer survivors, and dedicated breast cancer survivor teams battling it out for glory. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a curious newbie, or there to cheer as a spectator, everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

The festival promises a full day with cultural performances, including the lion dance, family-friendly activities, vendor booths, and mouth-watering food trucks. There’s something for everyone, so bring your friends and family for a day of community, camaraderie, and celebration.

All proceeds from the Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival benefit Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel, an all-breast cancer survivor dragon boat team founded in 2017. With members ranging from ages 24 to 80, Hearts of Steel brings together survivors from diverse backgrounds to promote full and active lives through the empowering sport of dragon boating.
