On December 3, several local Western Pennsylvania police departments were awarded AAA’s prestigious Platinum Community Traffic Safety Award for their safety efforts. The following regional police departments were honored: Aliquippa, Allegheny County, Allegheny County Port Authority, Beaver, Bellevue, Butler, City of Pittsburgh, Cranberry Township, Hampton Township, McCandless, New Brighton, New Sewickley, Northern Regional, Ohio Township, Pittsburgh Bureau, Shaler Township, University of Pittsburgh, and West View.
Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras (TRYPO) has been selected as one of 208 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive a grant from the OpenAI Foundation’s inaugural People-First AI Fund. Nearly 3,000 organizations applied for funding, which totals $40.5 million in unrestricted support. TRYPO’s $90,000 award represents approximately 10% of the organization’s annual budget.
Seven projects in the 44th Legislative District have been awarded nearly $1.03 million in state grant funding through the Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund (GEDTF). The funding will support important infrastructure upgrades, public safety improvements, and community enhancements across the district. Projects receiving funding include Bell Acres Borough, Edgeworth Borough, Glenfield Borough, Leetsdale Township, Leetsdale Borough, Sewickley Heights Borough, and Sewickley Borough.
The Shapiro Administration announced the start of construction on PennStart, a closed loop testing facility designed to accelerate innovation in emerging transportation technology. The total investment from all sources in the first phase of the project is $25 million and includes funding from Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC), PennDOT, PA Turnpike, the Hillman Foundation, and Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).
