Marion Swanson Piotrowski
President and Publisher
I
was born and raised in the North Hills of Pittsburgh,
attended grade school at St. Alphonsus in Wexford, and high school
at Vincentian Academy in the North Hills. I reside in McCandless
Township, with my husband Steve. We have three children,
all of whom attended St. Alexis grade school and
North Allegheny High School. We also are blessed to have three
granchildren. I enjoy sharing stories and information with
my children and grandchildren about family history and reasons
why I like Pittsburgh! I must say, they all share in my
enthusiasm! Pittsburgh is Someplace Special!
I have worked in Marketing and Public Relations for over
25 years, and enjoy publishing a magazine about the community I
grew up in and live in. I am always meeting interesting
people that share stories about people and places in
and around Pittsburgh. My mind is always working on how
I can put some of those stories into articles for the magazine
so our readers can also learn some new and exciting things about
our city. I enjoy promoting good news about people and
places and am a person that loves to hear and read
about positive things that make our community special! I
have been blessed to have had the opportunity to own my own magazine for
seven years, and to work with great people who also enjoy promoting
all that is good in the community.
2007 marks the eighth year of NORTHERN CONNECTION magazine!
Thank you for your support. Together we continue to make our
community an outstanding place to live and work!

Janice Lane Palko
Executive Editor
Since I was born and raised in the North Hills, my “Northern Connection” runs
deep. Educated at St. Athanasius in West View and St. Benedict Academy
in Ross Township, I’ve spent most of my entire life north of the city,
only venturing across the river for any length of time to work downtown for Westinghouse
Electric Corporation.
My writing career began fittingly enough with the North
Hills News Record as a columnist. Since that time, I’ve been published
in the books: Chicken
Soup for the Single’s Soul, A Cup of Comfort for Inspiration and A
Cup of Comfort for Expectant Mothers. My articles have appeared in The
Reader’s
Digest, The Christian Science Monitor, Woman’s World, Guideposts for Teens,
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
I have taught creative and memoir writing at Community College of Allegheny
County, and I am a member of Penn Writers and Romance Writers of America.
I have been a Core Writer and Associate Editor for Northern Connection Magazine,
and I am happy to serve as its Executive Editor.
I am married and the mother of three. My family resides in — Where
else? The North Hills!

and two older sisters. She is a graduate of North Allegheny
High School and Penn State Behrend College in Erie, where she

During her college days, Paula wrote

In November 2000, Paula joined the
staff at Northern Connection magazine as the managing
editor/public relations director. Each month she composes
various sections of the magazine, but her favorite is the “Trivia
Connection.”
“I was always the first one to
jump into a game of Trivial Pursuit. I enjoy doing the
research because I learn interesting new facts every month,” Paula
said.
She and her husband live in McCandless
with their two sons.
